Doing the Dishes

A dishwasher is self-cleaning, except around the rim of the door opening. Always make sure to wipe this area clean before starting the machine so that spills do not become baked on.

If you wash dishes by had, it will be wise to use a sink stopper or a dishpan and run the hot water as little as possible. Rinse the dishes in cold wter.

Always wash these items by hand:
  • fine decorated china
  • colored anodized aluminum
  • wooden items
  • hallow handled knives
  • pewter
  • cast iron
  • milk glass
Always make sure you remove eggs, cooked cereal and other dried on foods from dishes by soaking them right away in cold water. If you are only able to do this at a later time, put them in a solution of dishwasher detergent and water instead. let the dishes stand overnight, then lift off the food with a rubber scraper.
