Tips to Organize the Kitchen

A kitchen is always made more functional when everything is in its proper place. Can you imagine needing a pineapple eye peeler and you knew you have it but you cannot put your finger which drawer you placed it?

A kitchen that is organized does not just allow for easy access to things you need for when you cook, eat or prepare anything that you will serve your family. It saves you the time that you will waste when you rummage for hours on end.

Kitchen Tip: Choosing the Right Sink

When you come to think about it, kitchen sink is not exactly the first thing that comes in mind when you are constructing a house. But the truth is it is probably the one place that one has to spend most time in, granting that you have meals three times a day. A beautiful and functional sink is always a plus.

A lot of home designers have come up with such fab sinks, from the generic ones to the branded Franke sinks but the thing to consider when sink shopping is how it will complement the overall kitchen. You cannot just pick out a large sink when you have a tiny kitchen. Choosing the size and shape are the most challenging. After which, you choose the kind of design that you like.

The most important factor is your kitchen sink’s ability to accommodate the household’s kitchen activities.

Tips on Choosing the Best Sink for Your Kitchen

One thing I have personallylearned about house construction is the detail that you put into every single room in the house. Like the kitchen, for instance. This is practically the center sustenance of the people in the house, so detail should be all the more emphasized.

Kitchen sink is the central part of the kitchen and choosing one was one can be a challenge especially if you do not know any better. MRDirectIint.com has the most affordable undermount granite sink available in the market. Why choose a granite sink? First, MRDirect’s sink are made of 100% environmentally friendly materials. Second, they coat their sinks with bacteria killing silver ions and kill 99% of bacteria that comes in contact with it and third, granite sinks are scratch resistant, stain proof. All the reasons that you should possibly be looking into if you are looking for a durable, lifetime quality deal.

How to Clean Kitchen Sinks

The kitchen sink is where we wash the very things that should always remain clean in the house – dinnerware and utensils. Is there any way we can wash our sinks with less hassle? Yes there is. There are a few things to remember and the rest is, as they say, common sense.

The first thing to do is make sure you have all the supplies that you need for cleaning. I have always recommended for my readers to use and that is all natural cleaning agents: baking soda, vinegar or a mixture of water and tea tree oil. The next thing in your checklist is a quality microfiber cloth. A substandard one can do the job all right, but it might not last a couple of cleaning.
Before you start with the task, take away all clutters that might be atop your sink. If there are dishes to wash, then by all means wash them all first before you start. When this is done you can spray your sink with the concoction of tea tree oil and water. Let it stand for ten to fifteen minutes and scrub away. Baking soda can be a good cleaner as well and it will bring back the sparkle to your sinks.
It will help to maintain your stainless steel sinks to a good shape when you make it a habit to give it a quick wipe after every use.

Removing Stains from China

Sometimes there are stubborn black marks on china.  They are probably a result of metal utensils rubbing against the china.  Your best bet will be to keep china separate from metal items in the drawer.  If at all, use secure liht weight aluminum pans between hevier one so that they don't hit each other.

Try using another brand of detergent and use the sponge.  Immerse the stained plate in a bowl of water with 2 cups of white vinegar.  Let it stand for a couple of hours.  Wash and rinse all over again.

Summer Colors for Your Homes

How would you love to go natural this summer? I am currently thinking of splashing shades of mother nature around the home to neutralize the nasty feeling of summer sweats. It's one thing to sweat when you want it and it's another to sweat all the day long.

Sometimes giving your home a new look makes things better even as just an eye candy. It's always nice to have something to celebrate about. Beautiful hues of green, orange, mustard and chocolate brown can be the most delightful for summer theme.

Coffee Filters in Place of Paper Towels

Did you know that you can actually make use of coffee filter (the unused ones, of course) if ever you ran out of paper towels? It's neat how it works just fine and even better. Why? Because when you use coffee filter papers, you do not leave residues like what paper towels do sometimes.

No More Fridge Odors

A stinking fridge is a real turn off. For one, how could you imagine having to store your food when your refrigerator smells off, right? One easy thing you can do is line the vegetable bin with used newspaper before you load it up with your veggies. Observe and you will smell the difference.

No More Clogged Sinks

Did you know that you can actually do something to stop your sink from clogging every so often? It is called sink management and a task so easy that even a child can do it. Just make sure to pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain, immediatedly follow it with one cup of white vinegar. After ten minutes flush sink with six cups of boiling water. Done twice a month you just might never have to go through the hassles of declogging sinks.

Keeping the Oven Clean

For someone who bakes a lot like myself, the one thing that I don't like most about baking is the clean up. I wouldn't want to leave my oven with all those nasty splatters everywhere. But tell me, who enjoys stooping down to clean up the mess?

I have no choice but to do it. What I have learned is, I don't really have to fuss over those stuff. Like if anything is spilled on the oven floor, what I do is just soak up the spill with a wet sponge or paper towels. Let it cool and dry, then more often than not it scrapes off easily with a single edge razor blade set in a holder. This has to be done carefully to not dent the oven surface.

Oven racks can also be cleaned by soaking them in an ammonia and hot water solution. The oven frame is practically self cleaning, so all I have to do is wipe, including the part of the door liner that is outside the oven seal.

Kitchen Order

How do you get rid of kitchen clutter and put it right back in order. Go through each drawer and shelf and check for unnecessary items. No one needs four can openers in a kitchen, right? Give those extra items away to give way to a roomier kitchen.

Sort things out. Like the rearely used items and utensils, like the egg slicer, lobster claw crackers, cookie cutters and store them in the most distant drawer or shelf. It would be nice to get a box out that would serve the purpose.

Save Energy When Using Your Oven

Always make sure racks are arrranged in an overn before ever using it. It does not only save heat but makes baking and cooking safer.

If you are oven roasting for over an hour, make sur that you start it in a cold oven and cook it in the prescribed time. Normally, pre heating is not really necessary. Reserve preheating for baking.

Knife Care

To take care your good set of knives, be careful not to stir hot food with them. Know that heat damages some blades.

Unless the manufacturer specifically says that the cutlery is dishwasher safe, wash all knives by hand right after every use. Avoid soaking in water. This could loosen wooden handles. Always let dry thoroughly.

Knives with serrated edges depend upon notches for their cutting ability. They should be sharpened only by professionals - or not at all.

Dealing with Drains

To keep a drain free of odor, run very hot tap water after every use. And about once every week, throw in a handful of baking soda. An alternative to baking soda is vinegar. Pour in one full cup of vinegar and let it stand for 30 minutes. After which you run very hot tap water through the drain.

Remember that it is always easier to prevent a clogged drain that to clear one. Pour grease into an empty can or a a milk carton rather then into the sink. This also applies to coffee grounds and other bits of garbage.

Clean Kitchen Counters

Rub counter top stains, such as mustard, tea or fruit juice with baking soda and a acammp cloth or sponge. If stains persisi, wipe with a cloth moistened with a little chlorine bleach.

Erase price marks that transfer from containers to countertops with the use of rubbing alcohol. Soap the counter every few days to discourage bacteria.

Smoke Detector in Your Kitchen

Make sure to place a smoke detector on the same level as your kitchen, but not too near your appliances - everyday cooking can easily set it off. Also, never turn off the detector because you are cooking and it might cause the alarm to go off. More often than not, turning the detector back on is forgotten altogether.

Pots and Pans

Always store pots and pans in a dry place. If you will ever stack them all together, make sure that you place paper towels in between. Leave the lids off to prevent mustiness, moisture and crusting.

When you cook with the use of non-stick cookware, use wooden utensils and avoid temperature rising up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Save Energy on Your Cooktop

Always make sure to adjust a gas burner's flame so that it touches or is lower than a pot's bottom. There is no reason why the flame should go beyond the bottom of your pan. It is a waste of energy. This has personally worked for and has allowed my cooking gas to stay longer than it used to when we had a helper at home. For some reason some people actually think that the bigger the flame, the faster the food cooks.

If you are using an electric range, put a pan on a cooking element that's thesame size or slightly smaller than the utensil's bottom. Make sure the bottom is flat so that it makes full contact with your cooking pan. Put the burner on high when you begin cooking and lower it down as you finish. In fact, you can turn off the gas a couple of minutes before you get done with cooking. The residual heat will be enough to complete the cooking.

Do you perhaps use those usual commercial products loaded with chemicals? How about trying out the good 'ol baking soda, damp cloth and sponge to clean iip counter top stains like mustard, tea or fruit juice? If the stain won't come off then that's the time you try out a little chlorine bleach.
