Household Tip: Important Documents Storage

It pays to be organized. Do you know exactly where your important documents are stashed away in your home? It is important to know where they are. So if an emergency arises, you know exactly where to go to grab ahold of them. It will be good if you have a dedicated steel cabinet in the house to house documents that have notary stamps in them. These are the stuff that are hard to replace, in the event that you lose it. If you have an SDB in one of your banks, this can also be a place where you can store them.

House cleaning tips: Once a week general cleaning

Housekeeping does not necessarily have to be time consuming. The best way to manage household chores is set a day in the week when you will do the general cleaning. Bathrooms and toilets especially need special attention every so often. Dusting of modern furniture and sweeping can also be done once a week. But dishwashing should always be done every day. Electrical Tip: Changing light switch

While changing a light switch can be easy for some, it might just be a very challenging one for another. Given the dangerous task of having to tinker with something electrical, people actually find this rather simple task, difficult.

However easy changing light switch can be, one thing should always be kept in mind – safety. Make sure to turn off the main switch before doing anything to the KVM switch and let everyone in the house know, so as to avoid any accidental switching on of the fuse box. The things you will need will be a pair of nose pliers and a screwdriver.

Tips on How to Hang Framed Pictures on the Wall

Here are tips dedicated to learning how to properly hang framed pictures on the wall. Is there really a proper way or it all depends on the homeowner? Truth be told, there really should be a balance. The things that you have to consider are these basics:

1. Make sure your framed pictures are more or less eye level. Gone are the days when framed pictures are place a tad higher than eye level.
2. If you have several photos you want to hang, you can experiment on gathering up a group of framed ones and place them on the wall, keeping in mind to factor in “balance” as you get creative with your “masterpiece.” You should also consider if there are other things that are in the way like pieces of other artworks, even a tv stand
3. You may also want to place wall lights to highlight your framed pictures. This will make for an interesting part of the house.
4. Make sure that you don’t get one part of the room over decorated while you leave the others bare. Balance is a safe factor to look into in home decorating, that you can always count on to work out for you.

Water consumption tips

With the incidence of global warming all the more becoming a reality, we should do our share in keeping the cause of mother earth's depletion to a minimum. One way to do look into is making sense of what we do everyday and minimizing our consumption of the things we use around us.

Conserve water for example. How do we do that, when all the things we do everyday has to do with water. We use water when we cook, bathe, clean the house and a lot of other things. What we can actually do is to make use of rain barrels to harvest rain water. This will help to not just help the environment but will also benefit your household by way of reducing the water bill that you have to pay for every month.

Whatever rain water you collect with a rain barrel can be used to water your plants, clean the garage, car, et. al, instead of you having to use it straight from the faucet.

It is these little things that we choose to do that will make a difference. If more people will care enough to do their share, it will mean a great deal to the generations after us.

Wipe spills the moment they happen

If only we could have our house as clean as it was turned over to us when it was brand new. One of the things that I personally have to put up with when it comes to household cleaning is keeping my black and white washroom spic and span. I love the contemporary design we chose for our bath and the main challenge is keeping the white floor tiles sparkling white.

Maintenance is the answer. Making sure to wipe spills as soon as possible, putting the job off will just allow the dirt and grime to seep in thus making it even harder for the mark to come off.

Things to Watch Out When on Apartment Hunting

Apartment hunting can really be one daunting task, to say the least. After having transferred from one apartment to the other, five times, I could say, that we have earned a considerable “degree” when it comes to knowing what to watch out for in an apartment.

Aside from the basic things in your checklist, which should include: the proper installation and functions of the utilities. Making sure there is no clogged and problem drainage and sockets are good. Although a façade of a sturdy looking steel buildings is nice, you should still investigate from the inside just to make sure you do not get into roof trouble or anything that can be major once you have settled in.

The landlord should provide a number that you can contact, in case of maintenance emergency. Another important thing to check out is the neighborhood. With the abundance of information that you can get a hold of, you can actually have an idea of the kind of neighborhood your prospective apartment has.

More often than not intimidation is the reason why we do not get down to cleaning our room. When we get overwhelmed to do particular tasks, it is so much easier to leave it as is than to bother how to get about living in a better place.

Depending on the room you are looking into, if it’s a bedroom then make sure you make the minute tasks without problem like making the bed. Catnip Plant Repels Mosquitoes

Now that the commercial world has introduced a handful of insect repellant products, it does not mean that we do not have a choice in the way we want to have our house protected from bugs. Natural is always the best. Although insect repellant spray are effective, most of them are not lung-friendly.

Catnip joins eucalyptus and marigolds as one of the plants that can help mosquitoes stay at bay. This plant is a felted herb plant that is known to hypnotize cats but also repels mosquitoes. Place it in your porch or outside window sills to keep mosquitoes from getting inside your house.

Marigolds: Decorative and Insect Repellant

Like any typical family, we might have gotten used to getting a hold of an insect repellant sprayer when the need arises. But do you know that there are actually plants that are known to be effective insect repellants?

If you have seen Marigolds, then you probably know the unpleasant smell that goes with the flower’s nice color. The same unpleasant smell also repels mosquitoes. Marigolds for this reason can actually be used double purpose. Place it alongside your porch to decorate as well as ward of annoying insects. The bright flowers are nice enough to serve as decorative plant.

Study shows Downy Antibac wards off mosquitoes on fabric

Press Release:

This rainy season, moms can now count on added protection from mosquitoes for their kids as studies show that the fabric conditioner Downy Antibac lessens mosquito landings on fabric by at least 33%.

The efficacy of Downy Antibac in repelling mosquitoes was discovered in studies done by 4 independent institutions around Asia including the Philippine Association of Entomologists (PAE).

In the Mosquito Repellency test, panelists exposed their fabric-wrapped arms to mosquitoes for a set amount of time. The number of mosquitoes was then counted for the fabric washed in Downy Antibac and the fabric not washed in Downy Antibac.

“When we first found out about Downy Antibac, we wanted to test it ourselves because this was the first fabric conditioner we’ve heard of that offers mosquito repelling benefits,” said Cecille D. Ebuenga, President of the PAE.

“We were very happy with the results, which showed 53% less incidence of mosquito landing on the fabric washed with Downy Antibac. These are even better than the scores from the other countries! It means that moms now have an additional way to protect their kids from mosquitoes, which are among the most dangerous insects to humans because of the diseases they can carry.”

This news is especially relevant for families during this typhoon season, where mosquitoes are more prevalent.

“Mosquito eggs cannot hatch without water, though they can live up to 2 months in dry weather. As soon as they come in contact with water though, they will hatch and in around a week they will grow from wigglers to become adult mosquitoes,” said Ebuenga.

He further explained that skin temperature and moisture serve as short-range attractants for mosquitoes – the ammonia in sweat in particular, seems to be the most important chemoattractant for humans. Furthermore, incubated or aged sweat is significantly more attractive than fresh sweat for mosquitoes.

Microorganisms present in fresh sweat shows distinct growth during incubation so to help repel mosquitoes, Downy Antibac works by preventing the growth of malodor-causing germs on fabrics. It contains an antibacterial ingredient that deposits on fabric and ruptures the cell walls of bacteria therefore, preventing germ-growth and minimizing bacteria population that can contribute to sweaty malodor.

Ebuenga also stressed the importance of hygiene in helping to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes in our home and community. Ensuring that there are no sources of stagnant water in or around your home is one key way to help lessen mosquitoes by preventing them from breeding.

“If you have vases in the home, make sure that you empty it once or twice a week so it doesn’t become a breeding ground for mosquito eggs. Same goes for flowerpots in your garden – the insides of flowerpots are also good nesting places for mosquitoes,” he said.

He also suggested to use mosquito repellent lotion to help keep mosquitoes away.

Tips on Keeping Dust at Bay

Here are some tips on how to keep dust at bay in your room. First of all, always choose window treatments that will gather less dust. Tropical countries especially almost always guarantee that dust will get through every possible hole, as little as it may seem. If you choose to use drapes. Wash them regularly. Let go of small decorations that will just collect dusts. If you have a special collection get a special cabinet to have them displayed. Never along side every other things in the console table.

Carpets invites dustmites. These pretty things are not ideal in tropical countries. Use tiles or vinyl flooring instead. Make sure to launder beddings every week.

Handy Tips on How to Remove Scratches from Furniture

Scratches are ugly, dirty marks on our home's furnishings. More often than not they are bound to stay permanent unless you know how to erase it without destroying the furniture's over all surface. There are a few items that the wonder product that I have reviewed from last year that can be taken care of. But if the scratches are wooden office furniture, then that would be more of a challenge.

First thing to remember is never to use alcohol or any solvent on any wood surface. This will permanently damage the finish of your furniture. You can try to use wood balsam made from honey. Make sure to work on a hidden spot of the furniture to make sure it will not mess with your furniture's surface. To take care of the scratch, get a very fine steel wool and apply the wood balsam liberally and let the wool touch the surface of the wood with the scratch. Try to work your way through the scratch. Most often than not, this will work well with light scratches.
