Home Organizing Tips

It is funny how we almost always save spring cleaning or general cleaning to last minute before guests arrive. Does home organizing really have to be such a burden? Truth be told, it really does not have to be such a hassle to have to be organized on a daily basis. Home organization does not have to be done when we expect guests.

Tips on Setting up a Home Theatre

So you have purchased a complete home theatre set for your home with additional large speakers to give that surround sound effect. But after setting up everything, you are disappointed with the quality of the speaker’s audio. Well, one of the best ways to optimize the sound is elevating the speakers and you can do this by using stands. But before you decide to buy one, you might need to bear
in mind these things:

You don’t want to let your speakers reach your ceiling so take into consideration the height of the stand. If there is an eye level for TV’s, there is also a so called ‘ear level’ for speakers. Another thing you don’t want to overlook is the size of the stand. Make sure that the speaker isn’t too heavy for the set. Lastly, in choosing speaker stands, see its structure and how it was made. Decide for branded ones for this will surely give you product quality than settling for cheaper items that will not support your speakers for a
long period of time.

Home office

More and more people are choosing working from home than getting employed the traditional way. While it is more flexible and convenient to work from home, you will have to make some necessary adjustments in your home set up to be able to be efficient at it.

It is necessary that you set up office furniture in a nook in your house that will be identified as your place of work.

Flat TV installation tip

There is a danger in installing a tv to the wall. One thing to make sure you have to choose from the different mounts available, the correct size for the tv you want mounted. Make sure to take off the base that comes with the television. More often than not this service comes for free when you buy the tv, but if it does not, it is important that you have the exact item that you need.

Appliance Repair Tips

Our family has learned a thing or two about appliances that submerged during the typhoon ondoy (Ketsana). We first thought our washer was off to its wake when the buttons went blinking the first time we plugged it to the outlet. The fridge did great. Not even a hint of being submerged in flood waters.

After being struck by typhoon ondoy (Ketsana), one of the many things we had to take care of is appliance repair. This is why it is of extreme importance to be able to keep the manuals of your appliances. Although most of the appliances that submerged underwater did get back to working all right after a couple of weeks, machines should still be checked to make sure no corrosion has taken place. This will ensure you more good years with your appliances.

For GE parts, check out Appliance Parts Pro for quality and original pieces. Washer and dryer parts were two of our major concerns. We all know how washers have become essential to our homes. Getting clothes serviced by a laundry shop will take a lot from the family budget. This is why having your very own reliable appliance still weighs more than an outside service.

Supermarket Shopping

Although most supermarket nowadays already POS systems, there is still a few that I know that don't. While this surely lessens the risk of getting charged more than you should pay for, some such supermarket actually offer goods that are more than a peso cheaper for each product (some even ten), that they have. When you sum it all up, you are on advantage. The supermarket I speak of is Hi-Top along Aurora Blvd. For bulk purchases this is hands down, the place for us to go. Otherwise we just go to any random grocery store, because they almost always have the same price anyway.

But won't it be neat if there will be a supermarket that uses POS and offer cheaper prices as well?  This, I have yet to discover.  Maybe you have found one, dear readers and I will so appreciate if someone could recommend one.

Choosing Your Pet

Caring for pets entails commitment. This should be the first thing to remember when considering taking care of a pet. Some believe that having a pet helps children learn about responsibility. But there is actually more to it than that.

First to do is consider is factor in the kind of commitment a pet requires with the kind of lifestyle that you have. Dogs need more attention than you think. Will you be available to walk it on a regular basis. Weigh the odds between owning pet cat or dog against a caged animal, which is, more often requires less time to take care of.

How about your home environment? Will the neighbors be able to take it if your pet becomes too noisy? This is usually an issue when you live in a condo. Before looking into cattle supplies and pet accessories, make sure you have all these considered first.

Experts Say Childhood is the Best Time for Success

Ngo notes that while at first, being able to tell time guides kids on when to catch their favorite cartoon; they can apply the skill to more important things such as homework and eventually to work deadlines and client presentations.

So give your kids a head start on success -- here are some easy steps you can follow in teaching them the value of time and the discipline of time management:
Be armed with the basics!

The Chinese adage of the longest journey starting with a single step is also true for teaching your kids—and in this case, you first have to make them grasp the concept of ‘time.’

“Time is an abstract concept,” observes Ngo “So to make it more ‘real’ for children especially, concrete time telling tools such as a wrist watch is a must.” Ngo notes that it would help if these timepieces are visually appealing or interesting to the kids themselves. “If their favorite character is Spiderman or Barbie of course, they’re likely to be more interested in looking at watches that feature these characters as opposed to a plain-faced one. It’s about adding an element of ‘fun’ to a visual representation of time.”
Kids Watch Central --a retail outlet that specializes in kid’s watches—for instance, is one place where parents can source trendy and colorful character timepieces. Here characters such as Transformers, Hello Kitty, Barbie and Ben10 come alive to teach children the value of time and the discipline of time management. Kids Watch Central outlets are located inside the Children’s Accessories of leading department stores.

Prioritize and optimize
Ngo shares that another important tip is to encourage children to categorize their tasks as either ‘Important’, ‘Urgent’ or ‘Both.’ Important means that the task needed considerable attention to detail or research before it could be completed, while Urgent meant that it’s due soon. The option ‘Both’ means that they have a great deal of work to do in a short time.

“ The point of this exercise is to help children prioritize – if they themselves classify homework for tomorrow as ‘urgent’ or attending soccer practice as ‘important;’ then they can delegate their time and optimize their efforts accordingly.”

Experiment and Customize
The parenting expert notes that each child is different so in teaching them to manage their time, it’s also important to consider their temperament and personality.

“Some children need a break when getting home from school, while others lose steam if they don't do their assignments right away,” observes Ngo. “Experiment with different times to do homework and see where you have the greatest success. Once the study time has been determined, create a consistent routine based on what works best for your child.”

The value of time and the discipline of management
“Time management is about self management,” says Ngo “Of course, children shouldn’t abandon their sense of fun or spontaneity; however, some basic planning strategies can help a lot. And it’s a skill that that can go a long way to help them achieve success when they grow up.

Kids Watch Central is located inside the Children’s Accessories area in leading department stores such as SM, The Landmark, and Rustan’s.

Home Tips: Spring Cleaning and Children Stuff

Spring cleaning was coined after the general clean up that is done right after winter. Usually, when spring cleaning is used it almost always mean thorough clean out of things that are not being used anymore, more than just the dusting and wiping of things around the home.

Spring cleaning comes more than just once a year for mothers who have babies and children. This is because kids grow up so fast and you will have to take out from the closet a handful of clothes and toys that they have outgrown or else things will just overflow and you will find your house loaded with all toys and clothes that are not being used anymore. This is especially true for those huge toys, baby stuff like bouncers, swing sets and even high chairs.

More often than not, we give out these things to charity. Others of entrepreneurial tendencies sell them out on ebay and that’s okay too. The profits from the sale could be used for new stuff our growing kids will need that will replace the outgrown ones. Spring cleaning and sorting out baby and toddler stuff come so close together for a mother and is usually done atleast twice a year.

Tips for Choosing Furniture for Your Home

How do we choose furniture for our home? Inasmuch as it is fun to dress up our home, we have to take a few things in consideration. This is personally a challenge for me, especially with the given space that we have. Today, the company who is tasked to reupholster our couch and lazy boy came to pick up the set and give it a makeover.

fueAfter having seen a few outdoor couches with combination colors, we decided on a particular color theme (cream and brown) for our set. The inspiration was perfect timing, because we have already considered how it would complement the space of the house and the overall appeal. This is a basic whether you would like to throw in a new bedroom furniture in the master bedroom or a few bathroom vanities to your washroom.

Browsing through home magazines may help develop sense of style and orientation. But never allow yourself to be dictated by anyone’s preference. Make sure that even as you are inspired by personalities, you should always have your own.

As for the upholstery fabric that we chose for our couch, we chose German leather. It might not be the best pick given that we have a tot at home. But I think it will be the better option than a fabric. It is a little too dusty in here and I cannot really afford the high maintenance of having to vacuum every so often. Fabric will also encourage bugs because of the dust. It will really be up to the owner’s preference. But it will always be wise to take the weather conditions in consideration.

Basics on House Painting

What are the basics of home painting? Is it not just as easy as having the paintbrush go back and forth throughout your home’s interior walls? It may seem so easy but there really is more to painting than just that. If we know the basics of painting, then it just might be that we can give our homes the facelift that it needs from time to time.

One cannot speed through the process of painting, the end result would have been a nightmare, it that was the case. You will end up regretting you ever tried. If you don’t think you can patiently go through it, go get that reputable Denver Painter instead. But if you want to try wall painting yourself, decide first on the kind of paint that you want to use. There are better alternative nowadays, like the bio and environmental friendly ones.

Prepare your walls by scrubbing them clean, if they call for it. The least you need to get in the way of your painting will be those accumulated dust. Make sure you gather all the items that you need (rollers, paintbrushes, et.al). Old newspapers can do a splendid job in protecting your floors and furnishings from paint spill. You might also want to consider teaming up with a friend to make the task easier.

Tips on Making Pillows Last

How do we get our pillows to last? Good pillows do not come in cheap and we would like to have them last as long as possible, right? Here are a few things to remember if you want to enjoy your pillows longer.

Make sure your pillows always dressed up with zippered pillow cases. This will keep the pillows free from dirt. Regularly launder pillow cases and not wait until they are obviously dirty. Have a schedule. As for pillows, make sure you wash them clean as well, at least twice a year.

Maximizing Home Space

When we chose to build a small home rather than continue renting a place than is bigger, we knew we were going to have "space" issues. A lot of our furnishings had to go, which made the house look bigger than 48sq.m. Aside from the fact that the hubby's layout was perfect - it maximized the four corners of the tiny space. One major thing to keep in mind when you have limited space is – no white elephants are allowed.

I’m sure that if we were not allotting a homeschool base space, we could even afford a home theatre seating space. But since we have practically embraced homeschooling, it is not an issue. The thing is in the two years since we have acquired our home, we have maximized it and made it as comfortable as possible.

Summer Colors for Your Homes

How would you love to go natural this summer? I am currently thinking of splashing shades of mother nature around the home to neutralize the nasty feeling of summer sweats. It's one thing to sweat when you want it and it's another to sweat all the day long.

Sometimes giving your home a new look makes things better even as just an eye candy. It's always nice to have something to celebrate about. Beautiful hues of green, orange, mustard and chocolate brown can be the most delightful for summer theme.

Advantage of Having Your Own Home

Maintaining a home of your own really be a handful. But most if not all homeowners would agree that it is way better than having to spend and maintain a place that you only rent for a time and you know will never be yours. This has been a thought for my husband and me during our first five years of marriage. We keep on getting some things repaired, do improvements inside the house and everything’s on us.

The usual dilemma of family is the cost of house construction can really be steep. But the truth is one can actually get their dream homes now without having to spend what one is usually shelled out. This is what I have been reading about the Schumacher Homes. I’m sure if you will read about it you will see how feasible house construction is against what people might have thought in the past.

Do You Still Use Plastic Containers for Your Drinking Water?

After having heard from a handful of sources that using of plastic bottles to store drinking water in is not healthy, even dangerous. You might want to google about dioxin.

Info from Wikipedia:

Polychlorinated dibenzodioxins (PCDDs), or simply dioxins, are a group of
halogenated organic compounds which are significant because they act as
environmental pollutants. They are commonly referred to as dioxins for
simplicity in scientific publications because every PCDD molecule contains a
dioxin skeletal structure. Typically, the p-dioxin skeleton is at the core of a
PCDD molecule, giving the molecule a dibenzo-p-dioxin ring system. Members of
the PCDD family have been shown to bioaccumulate in humans and wildlife due to
their lipophilic properties, and are known teratogens, mutagens, and suspected
human carcinogens.

Dioxins occur as by-products in the manufacture of
organochlorides, in the incineration of chlorine-containing substances such as
PVC (polyvinyl chloride), in the bleaching of paper, and from natural sources
such as volcanoes and forest fires.[1] There have been many incidents of dioxin
pollution resulting from industrial emissions and accidents; the earliest such
incidents were in the mid 18th century during the Industrial Revolution.[2]
The word "dioxins" may also refer to a similar but unrelated compound, the
polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) of like environmental importance.

I am sure you have also received emails about the danger of water in plastic that it kind of activates Dioxins. Truth be told, one does not really need to take a look at all these facts to know that water stored from plastic containers are not good for you. The smell of the water inside the plastic should already tell you something is wrong.
We have been using used honey bottles for our drinking water - similar to those of brandy bottles that are sold in the market. No funny taste and no danger of dioxin. :-)

Home Accessorizing Tips

There is always something about a cozy home. But what makes a home cozy, to begin with? Aside from the very people that matters living in harmony therein, the feel and look can do a lot. You can start from the very look from the outside. Maybe a choice from address plaques can do the trick. Decorated house numbers will surely create that desire definition. Even mailboxes make their own statements, if you ask me.

There are a handful of Whitehall products you can choose from that you might want to don your place with. Make sure to visit the site for more details.

How Clutter Accumulates

It is the little things that we put inside those drawers, closets or even on top of the table that piles up that becomes clutter in the long run. A few days back when my weekend girl helper was around to help me do some general cleaning, I had her put inside a bag all the papers that are cluttered around the hubby's working area. I have no way of knowing if I coud put them all in junk. Those may be documents that he needs and not just mere scratch papers.

Those little things could easily pile up if we don't de clutter every so often. And our little house cannot afford these clutters.

Shampooing Your Carpets

Do you know that that the easiest way to clean carpets is to clean it with an aerosol spray foam especially made for carpets that are sold in supermarkets? Make sure the windows are open to ventilate the room and speed up the drying.

If you can, do remove all furnishings that are placed on top of the carpet for even cleaning. If there are items that cannot be removed, wwrap them with aluminnum foil wrappers around the legs. Vacuum the carpet thoroughly, especially heavily soiled parts.

Shake the can vigorously and spray a small foam on an inconspicuous part of the carpet and see if the color didn't change. Give it at least 10 minutes, if there's no change proceed to spray foam over the entire carpet. When the carpet is dry, it is time to vacuum the entire carpet.
