Scrapbooking and Milestones

Milestones are treasures. A family looks forward to them and captures them through pictures and videos. Scrapbooking is one way to put them all together. Nowadays scrapbooking has gone digital and is ever more affordable.

A milestone that a family would love to have captured is a child’s graduation day. It will be the neatest to have photo graduation invitations given out to loved ones just in time for your child’s special day. Even the graduation invites and pictures will be nice additions to a family’s growing scrapbook.

One of the things we can do to make a member of a family’s big day extra special is to give out photo graduation announcements and maybe prepare a special program in celebration of his or her special day. There are softwares available for this purpose which will come in cheaper and faster but you can order a customized one online for convenience.

Experts Say Childhood is the Best Time for Success

Ngo notes that while at first, being able to tell time guides kids on when to catch their favorite cartoon; they can apply the skill to more important things such as homework and eventually to work deadlines and client presentations.

So give your kids a head start on success -- here are some easy steps you can follow in teaching them the value of time and the discipline of time management:
Be armed with the basics!

The Chinese adage of the longest journey starting with a single step is also true for teaching your kids—and in this case, you first have to make them grasp the concept of ‘time.’

“Time is an abstract concept,” observes Ngo “So to make it more ‘real’ for children especially, concrete time telling tools such as a wrist watch is a must.” Ngo notes that it would help if these timepieces are visually appealing or interesting to the kids themselves. “If their favorite character is Spiderman or Barbie of course, they’re likely to be more interested in looking at watches that feature these characters as opposed to a plain-faced one. It’s about adding an element of ‘fun’ to a visual representation of time.”
Kids Watch Central --a retail outlet that specializes in kid’s watches—for instance, is one place where parents can source trendy and colorful character timepieces. Here characters such as Transformers, Hello Kitty, Barbie and Ben10 come alive to teach children the value of time and the discipline of time management. Kids Watch Central outlets are located inside the Children’s Accessories of leading department stores.

Prioritize and optimize
Ngo shares that another important tip is to encourage children to categorize their tasks as either ‘Important’, ‘Urgent’ or ‘Both.’ Important means that the task needed considerable attention to detail or research before it could be completed, while Urgent meant that it’s due soon. The option ‘Both’ means that they have a great deal of work to do in a short time.

“ The point of this exercise is to help children prioritize – if they themselves classify homework for tomorrow as ‘urgent’ or attending soccer practice as ‘important;’ then they can delegate their time and optimize their efforts accordingly.”

Experiment and Customize
The parenting expert notes that each child is different so in teaching them to manage their time, it’s also important to consider their temperament and personality.

“Some children need a break when getting home from school, while others lose steam if they don't do their assignments right away,” observes Ngo. “Experiment with different times to do homework and see where you have the greatest success. Once the study time has been determined, create a consistent routine based on what works best for your child.”

The value of time and the discipline of management
“Time management is about self management,” says Ngo “Of course, children shouldn’t abandon their sense of fun or spontaneity; however, some basic planning strategies can help a lot. And it’s a skill that that can go a long way to help them achieve success when they grow up.

Kids Watch Central is located inside the Children’s Accessories area in leading department stores such as SM, The Landmark, and Rustan’s.

Bed Rail for Your Toddler

Purchasing a bed railing for my son was one of the best things I have ever done when he was yet an infant. It was not until he fell from the bed around four times did we purchase one. I should have bought it early on. It is such a jewel and it is still being used up to now that he is going four years old.

Family Bonding Time at Home

Our family has immensely enjoyed bonding together especially this last couple of days. While the interest for playing Wii has waned for some, we are just starting. Late bloomers, all right. But we are definitely having the time of our lives. It was just timely that we recently just got ourselves a 32” LCD TV. It is the gift that the hubby and I decided to buy for ourselves when our marriage turned seven years old.

As I shared in my main web page, this current rave has definitely gotten be back to some physical exercise. I appreciate the fact that we chose this LCD that we now have amongst all the other TVs we have canvassed. Its size is perfect for the size of room that we have. Big enough for us to really enjoy the games and workout, but does not overwhelm the room. I believe the size of the television is really a big factor when it comes to partnering it with a game console, like what we have.

It also gives us an almost theatre like experience whenever we just want to unwind and just hangout to watch some interesting movies. Nothing beats bonding time with the family right at the comforts of your own home.

Family Medical Records

It is always beneficial for a household to jot down a history of diseases their family of origin has. For example, if one of your family members have tachycardia, then you have to put that in writing, alongside all the other diseases.

First, this could help your family pinpoint some physiological weaknesses and susceptibility. Second, now that you have a list, you wouldn’t have to wonder what to write in your next doctor’s appointment (they usually require this kind of list on the initial visit). You might want to save this file with the rest of your medical records, make sure to make a copy that you can bring along during an appointment with the doctor.

Kids and Game Consoles

With the evolution of game consoles that are made available all over the market, it is not an uncommon problem for parents world wide where to strike a balance when it comes to their children and the use of these high technology game consoles.  We sure do not want to withhold them the "game of the generation,"  whether it be PS2, XBox, Wii or PSP.  The question really is "should we have them enjoy it to begin with?"  As it is designed to get one addicted, it is not fair to have them have a taste of it and then pull it out from them in the middle of a game's momentum.  You know how its like.

The key is to have the parents decide on this issue head on, even before the kids are old enough to play.  It does help to agree on something.  It always gives you a head start to prevent damages and have you both work on priorities that you want your kids to value.

Reader's Digest Online

I recently stumbled upon a great blog for families. A treasure find indeed! Having been an avid reader of Reader’s Digest myself since I cannot anymore remember when, it should not be a surprise how they come up with such invaluable site that families can benefit from.

Reader’s Digest online allows for families to get a hold of great tips to improve and maintain harmony inside the home. In a chaotic world that we are already in, it will one great deal if families are given the chance to enjoy a stress free environment.

RD.com - Parenting also shares great tips for stress free travels with the family. When I was browsing through RD.com - Family Life, I easily got hooked on their page of family fun on a budget. Life is never easy. Just when you thought you were over diaper and milk formula expenses, there comes the pre-school education budget needs. It allows for parents like me to think out of the box and go back to basics. Being frugal does not mean withholding the child anything. More than the material things the commercials are exposing every household to, creating needs to buy this and that to satisfy the kids. These are all quick fixes if we come to think of it, what these children really need are our undivided attention. It might take creativity on the part of parents to juggle and device a system that will work for them, but the bottom line is, their presence is of utmost importance.

I really do love this site. It actually reinforces the beliefs I have when it comes to parenting. Very handy for parents who may be in the dark or even those who can use some bits and pieces of advice in handling relationships in the family.
