How to make the most of your Scanning Software

Recently, a number of bloggers have been encouraged to make their own digital scrapbooks. Some chose to get their images from their social sites while others are being more creative by taking those old albums out and scan the images for great impact.

For a few people who have not used scanners before, here are a few tips on how to get the most out of your scanning software. First you need to understand the ppi and dpi for scanning resolution. If you are working on a great number of images, try batch scanning for it can save you much time and effort. Be careful for unsightly patterns that appear on your images. More often than not, it is caused from the previous scanned materials. After you have completed scanning, prepare to save your file, whether you want to save it for editing or directly to the web.

Monitor Children's Exposure to Game Consoles

Now that we have started homeschooling, it is now more than ever that I am convinced that children should not be exposed to too much game consoles.  I am not a game console hater, we actually have one at home.  I just happen to believe that there should be moderation to everything.  XBOX, Wii, PS3 players should be played mostly by adults and if children should at all be allowed to play, there should be a limit.

Gadget Tip: Read Manuals and Maximize Your Gadget's Potential

As a proud owner this brand new, albeit entry level DSLR baby, Nikon D40, I have been pretty busy looking into getting better at doing photographs. Even as I do this, I have been looking for tips and tricks and what nots that pertain to this particular model of DSLR.

Reading through forums and lingering over at KenRockwell.com’s webpage is helping me a lot. Especially so that the manual that I got hold with my kit is in German. Ken Rockwell provided a D40 user guide that is just so easy to understand, even for someone who is not big on manuals ever. This is where I inject my tip for the day: Read manuals to maximize the potential of your gadget.

As I mentioned, I have never been big on manual reading. I usually go by feel, but I understand that if I wanted to be more than just a photography hobbyist, I should go beyond that mediocre phase. Get to know whatever gadget you have. Like for instance, for this particular topic, your DSLR.

Sure you can go by feel and figure out what will be the best settings for exposure modes, medtering controls, flash, focus, white balance and all other settings. But wouldn’t it be nicer if you get hold of the manual and get it straight from the manufacturer what each and every button is built for. Manual reading is essential if you would like to go beyond the so-so performance of whatever gadget. Otherwise, you do not just risk not being able to optimize its potential, but you could also mess up with its settings and if you are not very lucky run the risk of destroying the software of your gadget.

Read your manuals and go through forums and helpful web pages that could assist you through your gadget. That is what I am doing now and for everything about cameras, go for the guru himself, Ken Rockwell.

Globe Sulitxt15 Relaunched

As a retailer of Autoloadmax, I was given a heads up via SMS that Globe has made it even easier for us to load up prepaid subscribers and that is via *100#. The first time I used it was last April 30, to load my own number via my load wallet. It was also the day when I was one of the bloggers that was invited over to attend a Globe event in Legend Villas in Mandaluyong.
It was a relaunch of their Sulitxt15 promotion. Sulitxt15 promo grants the prepaid subscriber 100 SMS to fellow Globe subscribers for only P15/day. A practical treat during these hard times. If you would like to register to Sulitxt15 the conventional way, here's another option:

To register for SuliTxT15 using your current load, just type SULITXT 15 to 8888.
And for EverybodyTxT20, still using existing load, just type ETXT 20 and send it to 8888.

Second Hand vs. Brand New Mobiles

More and more people are buying second hand phones. It could be the global crisis, but then again, it could also be plain practicality. The thing with second hand phones, you have no guarantee to hold on to just in case the phone you bought has some problem here and there. This is why I have always bought brand new, unlocked phones. Truth is, you might think you are saving by buying the second hand mobile. But in the unfortunate event that it turns out that there will be a problem, you just might end up paying more.

This has worked for me. Atleast I always end up getting what I paid for. In instances that the mobile has to undergo service – then it is no extra cost for me. Except of course for the transportation cost going to the service center and all the hassle. But aside from that, there is nothing more to pay for – at least for one full year.
