When Company is Coming

To prepare and get your house cleaned up as you expect visitors in such short notice can be stressful. Save time and lessen the stress. Work on the more obvious places and concentrate in cleaning them up. Areas such as the entrance halls, living room. If you are given just one hour, then do as much as you can in those areas. Make sure to fast clean the bathroom. Again zero in on what shows the most.

Contain all the clutters you possibly can. Clean surfaces. There are aesthetic tactics you can apply that fool the eye. Make sure to keep the white surfaces clean and people will assume the dark ones are clean as well. Spray windows and surfaces with glass cleaners and fast wipe with paper towel.

Handling Your Mail

How do you usually handle your mails? Do you find yourself stacking them up until everything piles up and realize later that you do not have use for them anyway?

As much as possible handle your mails as soon as you get them. Discard anything that needs no action or you have no interest of. Like for instance, a subscription offer that you think you do not need. If you receive a pre-approved credit card that you do not want, make sure to cut it up before throwing them. Do the same with other credit cards that have expired or are already replaced.

The Family Message Center

A family message center can prove to be invaluable. This need not be grand and elaborate. It could even be on the fridge or a bulletin board. Encourage everyone in your household to use the message center to list plans, needs for the next trip to the store (this will save a lot of store travels) and all the telephone messages.

It is important to keep the message center up to date. Always make sure to throw away outdated and done notes. Take care of most of the items on the list as much as possible and enter in a notebook the things that needs to be done at a later time.

The Revolutionary iLASIK™

An invaluable tip for those who have less than perfect vision - the iLASIK™ Procedure. The revolutionary LASIK technology has really come a long way since it was introduced to the public. Even NASA and the military only have good words for this technology as it allows a more efficient and effective personnel. I am glad to report to you that even the Department of Defense or DOD tapped all laser for of LASIK to improve their personnel’s vision. Vision is very critical especially when the men in uniform are facing extreme conditions.

The good news is this kind of technology is not necessarily focused on those who serve the country, or in the military. If you would read more on LASIK information, even common people have benefited and quite a number have undergone these very safe corrective procedure. This modern LASIK, which is better know as the the iLASIK™ Procedure, is deemed even safer for it uses two lasers instead of one. The initial stage is what they call wave-front technology that maps the unique characteristic of the patient’s eye. After which another guided laser creates a corneal flap which makes this laser procedure exceptionally safe. To date, there are over 12 million Americans who have benefited from LASIK technology.

Most chores can easily be done and over with in bits of times. Like for instance, while waiting in line, you can do several things like checking a list. Or if you're waiting for your turn at the doctor's office, you pay the bills, either by phone or the nearest pay center. Or you can even write out your shopping list. They key really here is to make use of every available time for the little things that you need done.

Here's what you can do in 5 minutes:
Phone for an appointment.
Trim your nails.

Sew back a button.

How about in 10 minutes:

Dust the furniture.
Exercise.

In 30 minutes:

Cleaning in Layers

Have you ever heard of cleaning in layers? It is a mindset of organizing a cleaning schedule to suit your specific needs. This is what I do at home. Being the work from home mother that I am, I am left with nobody but myself to do the house chores, so I figured I must devise a way wherein things will be less cumbersome for me. Thus, the cleaning in layers.

Layer1 - Basically covers the everyday things that needs to be done. Dish washing, floor sweeping, garbage emptying, bed making, and for those who have toddlers like me, picking up toys.

Layer2 - These are tasks that are to be done once or twice a week like vacuuming, for non-tropical countries - watering the plants, cleaning the garbage pail, cleaning the bathroom, toilet and dusting the furniture.

Layer 3 - Once a week deep cleaning like mopping or scrubbing the floor. I consider myself blessed because I have a weekend girl who comes over to do this for me. Polishing furnitures, cleaning the fridge, changing the linens.

Layer 4 - This involves projects like washing the windows, woodwork jobs, cleaning the oven, polishing silvers, washing summer and winter blankets. Cleaning the screens and storm windows also fall under this layer. Choose a fixed two hours per week for these or add them to your Layer 3 to do's each week as they come up.

Keeping house should not be as hard as it seem. It just needs a system and have it work for you. Happy cleaning! :D

My folks are in America right now and having the time of their lives enjoying their well deserved vacation. They are both retired and it is just one of the nicest things a couple should do upon retirement. They are given several months to spend their vacation and they are really glad. They might even get to experience their very first Thanksgiving and white Christmas.

It is my mom’s second time to go to America and one of the favorite things she has done the first time she went there was one of those Las Vegas tours, our relatives also got a hold of Kennedy space center discount and got her around the place pretty much. If there are future plans of visiting the States, you should look into going to those neat places to maximize your tour. Sign up for the newsletter and list down that itinerary.

Minimizing Housework

Always make it a habit to return everything in its place. Make sure members of your household do the same. You will need the cooperation of the people around you. I have learned that this can be a major issues with couples. If it would seem to be impossible to influence your spouse in this area, make sure to impart this habit to your children. This is something you can still do, even consider it a responsibility - have them form a good habits and they will be the ones to benefit in the long run.

If you and the members of your household do this on a daily basis, housework will be a tad easier for all of you, especially for the one who does the majority of work inside the house. It will be nice to know where exactly things are inside the house.

Do chores as the need arise. You do not need to wait until everything piles up. If you do the laundry in the weekend, you can load the washer before breakfast and after the meal you and the laundry is done, you would not even notice that you did the laundry at all. These eases things up as you get better at multi-tasking.

Always use labor saving gadgets whenever you can. They will really allow for you to save time. But you have to note not to overdo it. Like for instance, it would be a lot easier to chop an onion manually than using a processor that you would have to take apart and wash.

Big tasks should be done one at a time. You don't attempt to fix all the closets in your house in one day. One at a time, you do not need to frazzle yourself. Even as you would want to finish all the housework, you want it done in a less stressful manner as possible.

In planning chores throughout the week, always make sure to take time out for yourself, even a few hours. A day, if at all possible. Doing this allows you to recharge and get back the energy to a more efficient you.

Errands

Always keep a running list of groceries and household items that you need replenished. One very handy software that has this function is my grocery application that I have got installed in my mobile. Everyone has a mobile nowadays and as functional as a hard copy list that you can take along, nowadays a mobile software application is just the perfect piece to serve this purpose. Adding up to your outstanding list takes off the burden of cramming when it is time to go shopping. If there will be any additions, there will only but little to add therein.

In doing errands, always make sure to patronize stores around the vicinity of your work place or home so that you will not need to travel very far. Always make it a habit to do errands when you are on your way to do somethings else. This is hitting two birds with one stone. This will serve you better than make special trips for errands.

If there are just errands that are just to a far off and several locations, always make sure to schedule the trips to minimize wasted travel time. Always make it a point to have back to back trips to the doctors or dentist for the whole family.

Always get members of your family to participate and help out with errands. And always attach a note with instructions. This is simple delegation and will eventually help your kids even as they are expected to share responsibilities around the house. Use Buzzfuse* to easily rate, review, and share this item

Home Inventory Photos

I have encountered some handy tips in the past suggesting to get your photo taken with belongings around your house. It can sound a little ridiculous at first, but the very purpose of such could actually be your insurance to the ownership of the possessions you have accumulated throughout the years.
Make sure to get these photos kept safe in your safe if you have one or in a metal box. This will be your proof that the item is yours, when any or lost, stolen or destroyed. One easier piece to do is have someone take a video of you as you enumerate the things around your house. This will be way easier and can give out details that could take lots of photographs would need to get a hold of. In a video you can actually hold the items and show them special marks from the very same object that cannot be disputed that it is of another item, like if it were photos.

This could really come in as a very neat way to secure your items at home and this could allow you to claim from insurance companies in the event of fire or similar unexpected events.

Credit Cards: Maximizing the Benefit

Are you one of those who periodically use your credit cards? How do you manage the way you utilize the plastics? Truth to tell, it is very convenient to carry credit cards than to lug around with a thick amount of cash in your wallet. But before you go apply for credit card there is only one thing you need consider. Do you honestly think you will be responsible enough to pay the exact amount that you paid on credit before the due date?

This is important to take note of if you would rather have the interest work for you and to be able to maximize the benefits of being a credit card owner. Yes, you could actually tell yourself you can pay for the items on installment. The fact is if you got this embedded in your mind that you will get used to using your cards and pay off what you actually owe on installment. This is what a lot of people take for granted at first until they find out too late that they are deep in debt and are only paying off interest instead of the principal. Think about it.

That’s basically the only thing that you need to be definite about before you ever consider getting a credit card, the other things are just minute ones that will still base its foundation to this very issue- responsibility. It is a mistake to apply for a card if your sole purpose is to purchase items that you cannot afford in reality. Living within your means will always do you good.

Improve Your Vision with Pinhole Eyeglasses

Back when I was in grade school I was forced to wear thick glasses. I only wore it a year or two and I was back to sporting my 20/20 vision. I am not sure what I did right, because I was doing more than seven hundred (left eye) and a hundred plus (right). It was no fun wearing spectacles, aside from the fact that I live in a tropical country, I am one of those who would have beads of sweaty nose hot or not. It was especially true during my puberty to my teenage years. One could just imagine how I had to periodically wipe my nose until it got red. It was embarrassing.

pinhole.jpgThe thought of going back to wearing spectacles almost became a possibility in the last couple of months. The culprit is definite - the prolonged hours I spent in front of my laptop. It was just timely that the chance to try out pinhole eyeglasses came, because I am just so hesitant to ever be bespectacled again. I chanced upon this technology when I was doing my regular browsing through sites. Apparently the principle behind pinhole glasses dates back to the fifth century BC. By blocking the indirect rays from getting into our eyes, it allows clearer vision.

As I went about getting the hang of using it, it occurred to me that it does its job because the pinholes allow the pupils to be fed with direct rays which logically make the image I see better defined. I would have to admit that at first it felt strange wearing these pinhole eyeglasses but because I was willing to consider anything that would have me do away with wearing glasses on a regular basis. As I allowed my eyes to get the hang of using them, the pinholes became bigger and it did not feel as weird. It actually relaxed my eyes as I went along doing my online tasks. It practically felt these babies are giving my eye muscles the work out it needs. Even without reading all the literatures about pinholes, this alone explains why it could get you back perfect vision.
